Tour Director's Field Report

Just a quick post with a few photos of a storm that blew up near Mineral Wells, TX and produced a few quick spin-ups off the leading edge of the gust front. We followed the storm for about 20 miles north of Mineral Wells were it moved over some hills and was literally sitting on the ground at that point.

The highlight of the day (for me) was a photo that as it turns out I was able to capture stepped leaders in broad daylight.  Stepped leaders can basically be described as lightning before it makes contact with the ground.   The chances of a photo like this are at least one in several hundred thousand - spoken because I have taken several hundred thousand photos of storms in my lifetime in this is the first time I've ever captured stepped leaders, and in broad daylight no less.
